Day 5: Tamarindo Hostel

Welcome to Tamarindo! We arrives here last night after dark. As we were driving in, the town did not seem familiar to me at all. It wasn't until we hit Witch's Rock Surf Camp that I started recognizing things. It was a really weird feeling coming into town, but we were still on the outskirts so it's no wonder I didn't recognize places as we drove by them.

We didn't have a hostel lined up yet, nor even researched, so we drove around town in search of one. We didn't want to stay on the main street which is next to the beach because I remember it being a bit more pricey. You want beach location, well you'll pay the price for it too!

Because it was after dark and were were tired from the drive, we decided to pick any ol' hostel for the night and if need be, we would resume our search in the morning if we wanted to find someplace different.

We ended up staying at La Oveja Negra Surf School and Hostel. It was full of people, with shared gender-specific washrooms. At first it seemed like it may be a huge party hostel but man, as soon as 11:00 or so hit, the place was dead quiet. People were either outside in the cool night air or out out the local bars / night clubs (more so the latter of the two).
We stayed in a dorm last night. The cost $10 per person. It was comfy, but it turned out that the air conditioner wasn't working, and it was a center room so it didn't have windows either. Due to the lack of air movement, we had a slightly uncomfortable first night there.

This morning, we decided to stay on at this hostel if a room switch was available. One was, and we moved directly across the hall. We had a ceiling fan, air conditioning and windows! Awesome. The cost of a double room was $30 a night.
This is the common area of the hostel. The front reception desk, with the kitchen through the door behind it, and a large rec room with TV, Internet, computer, and lots of seating. There was also a pool table to the left.
This is a sticker posted on the front door....too funny! Paddle surfing has become popular since the last time I was here. You actually see quite a few people on paddle boards.
Now that our room is sorted, we're off to the beach!
