Day 6: Playa Avellana

We spent the morning at the beach in Tamarindo, and are spending the afternoon south of Tamarindo at Playa Avellana. It's such a beautiful beach. Very picturesque with the trees. The boys drove down in their vehicle and we drove down in ours.
Got to love the trees here! This beach reminded me a lot of Malpais, Costa Rica which I ventured to during my 2006 trip.

We walked down the beach quite a ways from the main beach entrance looking for the best waves. We found a good spot that also provided some shade, as well as a clothes rack...see these trees are awesome!
Paul and I took turns in the water. First I went out body boarding. I didn't have flippers in my size so it wasn't as fun as it could have been. It was just nice to be out in the water.
Sadly, shortly arrive we arrived at Avellana, the sky started clouding over. But I still managed to get some cool pictures like this one of the vegetation line along the beach.
Next up, Paul went out body boarding. I think he had more fun than I did, but he body boarded when he was growing up, so he knew what he was doing. I was just out playing around.
Derek took Paul's body board out, so I took Derek's surfboard out for a few waves.
Followed by a little yoga on the beach! We spent a good chunk of the afternoon out here. Got here before the waves and beach started to fill up, and left shortly before dusk.

Here's the boys packing up their vehicle. Luckily for them, their vehicle is slightly larger in size than our lil "Jimny Cricket", hahaha! When we went to the beach in Tamarindo this morning, all 5 of us squeezed into our Jimny...it was pretty tight, with no extra room for much gear.

Tan update: yep, I'm starting to show more and more color. Sadly today it's a slight shade of red.
This evening we hung out with Derek, Charles and Greg. We all went to Witch's Rock for dinner, and then hung out at the hostel. Charles caught some great indoor waves! Later on, we moved outside, and then finally headed down to the main street in Tamarindo for a little bar action.
I am loving the weather down here....and am already scheming my "next trip"! Perhaps Belize, or Guatemala! Tonight we're packing up to make a move again tomorrow. We're thinking Jaco. I still can't convince Paul on Nicaragua because of the car rental. But he claims we'll hit up Panama if we go to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica...hmm, ok, I'm game for that!
